Philosophy of Education
I am passionate about encouraging children to become lifelong learners, and I find great joy in watching them mature. I believe, as Charlotte Mason said, that all education is self-education, but that’s not meant in a way that excludes the need for mentors, tutors, and discipleship. In fact, another core principle of education is humility. We must be willing to learn from others. All education being self-education simply means that we cannot force another to learn. We can only offer, and students must apprehend for themselves.
Each student is uniquely made and has different needs and abilities. The objective of our high school class is to help the student grow in owning their own education. We provide whatever level of support is needed for each student to formulate a goal, meet the objectives needed to get there, and grow in virtue and self-awareness in the process. And we believe there is great benefit to doing this in community with one another.
We work closely with parents in all of this, to varying levels according to each families’ needs and desires. Some parents already have specific goals in mind, and some have a more general idea and welcome outsourcing more of the details, and both work well at North Idaho Schole. We currently have multiple students working to meet requirements for admittance to a liberal arts school, a student working towards a GED, and another headed for tech school.
